Roll to Play: The Game Shuffler App
For my Digital Media Innovation Capstone course, we were tasked to take a problem and create a solution from the beginning of research all the way through to a prototype and mock website. The problem I decided to research was indecision when it comes to playing board games. Over the course of the semester, I created Roll to Play: the Game Shuffler app.
Research
Before we could work on a solution, we needed to research the problem in detail. We worked in pairs for this part of the assignment, so my focus on research was on the potential solution, our competition, our audience, and our marketing.
Pitch Deck
Once we had our research-backed solution, we needed to create a pitch deck as if we were pitching to investors. Again, we did this portion of the project in pairs as well, each of us focusing on the parts of the deck that we researched.
Prototype
After creating the pitch deck, I created a prototype of what the app might look like using Adobe XD. For this portion of the project, we worked individually. I wanted to create an app that was easy to use and simple, but I also wanted it to be fun and playful. I achieved this with the color scheme of bright primary and secondary colors against an eggshell white background that allows the playfulness to come through, yet kept the interface to a minimum. I also described the functionality of each screen.
Mock Website
The final piece to the project was to put together a website for the business as if it already existed. Again, we worked individually for this portion of the project. I created the website using Bootstrap5 and I used custom CSS to match the website colors to the colors I used in my prototype. It’s a simple, one page website that explains the app’s use and draws the user in to try the app.
