Forming a Party

Getting a group together to play with

Roles

Game Master

The "GM" is the narrator of the game. They set the stage, know the ins and outs of the world and guide the rest of the players on the adventure.

Player Character

"PCs" are the characters that the players (besides the GM) create. They have stats and characteristics that affect how they interact with the world.

Non-Player Character

"NPCs" are the characters that the GM creates for the PCs to interact with in the world. They are played by the GM and can be friend or foe of the PCs.

Together, these players form a “party” with their characters who adventure and interact with the fantasy world that the GM has created. From here, the limit is endless in what you can do.

Who should be in your party?

A D&D party can be made up of any combination of races and classes, but the classic party composition typically includes: a tank, who can take a big hit as well as give one back; a healer, who can return lost hit points to fellow party members; and a spellcaster, who can deal lots of widespread damage as well as use magic to solve problems and puzzles. Here are a few example party makeups for a group of 5 players.
